Work

Sheila Young (aka Sheila Chinn – professional name at her 'day' job – Head of Department KS ICT, Alton College Sixth Form College, Hampshire) learnt to type in 1965 on an old Imperial typewriter.   She later moved to electric typewriters and then in 1986 she bought an Amstrad PC 1512.  Not the most flash of PCs but it was cheap and it was a start.   That same year she became a teacher and PCs and computers replaced typewriters ... and from then on she experimented with applications and introduced new courses to update students’ and staffs’ skills - mainly in the use Office Applications, web design programs (Dreamweaver) and keyboarding using KAZ.

She has written more training guides than she can remember (many now on Moodle for Alton College),  has had two How To Books published (How to Work in an Office and Delivering Customer Services – now out of print) and has written Tutor Guides  and test papers in ICT and Communications for the BBC Key Skills website. Her work at College has taken her on a World Challenge to Tanzania and in 2005 she was highly commended in the Star Awards for Tutor of the Year in England.  Currently she is trialling Adobe Captivate to create demonstrations for students.  She is Co-ordinator for the Enrichment Programme and will be re-introducing Text and Word Processing qualifications linked to a touch-typing course in a newly-created class for 'A' Level students.

Interests
Amongst her interests are travel, WW1 and WW2 history, writing, family genealogy and playing with her grandchildren. She enjoys making websites and playing with new technology, including Dreamweaver 8, Adobe Captivate and Office 2007. Website: http://www.seyoung.co.uk/.  Her current hobby is transcribing letters her parents and their parents exchanged during WW2, as well as researching family history as far back at the 1600’s.

She enjoys a good murder and Midsomer is a place she regularly visits when she wants to unwind! In July 2007 she was a guest at Paul Teutul Senior's wedding (of Orange County Choppers). Click this link for photos.
